Length of School Days

1. Regular sessions

1. Pupils - elementary schools.--- The school day for elementary pupils shall comprise of five and one-half hours exclusive of the lunch period. Elementary schools shall open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

2. Pupils - Middle, junior and senior high schools.--- The school day shall comprise of six hours as a minimum, lunch period time excluded. Length of class periods shall satisfy state and regional accreditation standards. Schools shall open between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

3. Opening hours for schools that do not adhere to times contained in (a) and (b) above shall require approval of the Board.

4. Time of daily opening of school.--- Principals shall confer with the Superintendent before initiating any change in the time - pupils commence their school day.

2. Double sessions

1. Board.--- The Board shall be presented alternate plans for double sessions and shall approve the plan to be pursued.

2. Pupils.--- The length of the school day for double sessions shall be four and one-half hours of net instructional time for grades K-12.

3. Teacher.--- The minimum time for all teachers shall be seven and one-half hours as in a regular session. Schedules shall be staggered in such a way as to best accommodate the needs of the school children.
