The Board may issue interim contracts to members of the instructional staff:
When a properly certified teacher is not available. A certified teacher may be hired out-of-field and receive an interim contract for a term not to exceed the duration of the emergency period or until such time as a fully qualified teacher is appointed by the Board. In no event shall the term of the interim contract exceed the duration of the balance of the school year.
When a contracted teacher is on authorized leave or is otherwise unable to perform assigned duties.
For a period of time in excess of 6 months-- A properly certified teacher may receive an interim contract for a term not to exceed the duration of the emergency period or until such time as the regular teacher is able to return and perform assigned duties. In no event shall the term of the interim contract exceed the duration of the balance of the school year.
For a period of time less than 6 months-- All teachers hired to replace regular employees expected to be on leave for less than six (6) months shall be employed as temporary personnel eligible for all benefits except Florida State Retirement.
When a new teaching position is created or added, or when a regular position is permanently vacated, provided said position becomes available following the start of the school year at or after a date determined by the Superintendent. A properly certified teacher may receive an interim contract for a period not to exceed the duration of the balance of the school year.
When a situation exists and/or the Superintendent determines circumstances and conditions to be such that it would be in the best interest of the School Board to issue a teacher an interim contract. A properly certified teacher may receive an interim contract for a term not to exceed the duration of the balance of the school year.
The salary and other benefits of employment of those persons appointed on an interim basis shall be the same as those provided by contracts issued to regular instructional personnel, except that the duration of service and compensation for the holders of such contracts shall be limited to only those days during which services are actually required or rendered. Interim contracts may be terminated by the School Board upon three days' written notice to the teacher by the principal or designee.
All interim contracts issued prior to the adoption of this policy shall remain in full force and effect until such time as by their terms and conditions they expire or lapse.
