Policy 8.15Recognition of Students Who Perform Volunteer Community Service

  1. All school center principals are encouraged to recognize those students who perform voluntary service for the community.

  2. The School Board of Palm Beach County Community Service Recognition Program is established to recognize high school students who perform volunteer community service.

    1. High school students who perform 100 or more hours of recognized community service in one school year will receive a certificate.

    2. High school students who perform 100 hours of community service in each of the four years they are enrolled in high school will receive a medal as special recognition of their continued service.

    3. High school students who transfer to Palm Beach County schools after the ninth grade will receive special recognition if they perform 300 hours of recognized community service during their high school years. (Students who are sophomores and juniors during the initial year of implementation may qualify for special recognition with 300 hours of recognized service.)

  3. The Superintendent shall develop appropriate procedures to implement this policy and shall include an item in each annual budget request to fund the awards program.
